COMMANDER:
Hello again, I hope this finds you all well. Not too much to report on from February. The National Commanders visit is after this goes to print, so the April newsletter will address his visit.
At the February Post meeting "TAPS" were played for Korean War veterans Richard Grimes and Richard Issacson. Both were long time Legion members and they will be missed.
On Friday March 11th from 6-8pm its the LEGION CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK DINNER with baked potato, mushrooms, dinner roll and SALAD BAR $9.00. If you are observing Lent you can substitute an 8oz breaded Cod and green beans for the steak and mushrooms.
On Sunday March 13th from 9-1pm its the LEGION FAMILY STEAK AND EGG BREAKFAST with American fries, toast, juice and coffee $6.00.
March 15-17 (1919) the American Legion was founded, Happy Birthday to us.
There’s still time to order Girl Scout Cookies for the TROOPS .
In closing lets not forget our troops in harms way. They need our continued support. May the "FORCE" be with them.

Hello Everyone,
Spring is fast approaching (although not soon enough) and with it comes opportunity for all of us to create some unique fundraising events. As I mentioned in the February newsletter, we are exploring some different ideas, but would always welcome any new ones you might have. Please join us at our next meeting, March 8th at 6:30 PM – and bring a friend, the more the merrier!
Casino Night is at the Veteran’s Hospital is March 15th. The veteran’s there really enjoy this night as do the volunteers. The fun starts at 7 PM and ends promptly at 8 PM. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Doris Rindahl or myself for the details.
March 20th is the next Pancake Breakfast. Cost is $6.00 (Children 10 and under $3.00) and includes: Pancakes or French toast, sausage, eggs coffee and juice. Time is 9 AM to Noon. Please check Manager’s column for drink specials!
Thanks again to all who continue to donate their time, it is greatly appreciated.

Greetings! The S.A.L. Mystery Bus Trip was a huge success!
Everyone had a great time. A big thank you to the folks at Richfield, Savage, Shakopee and Chanhassen Legion Posts for their warm welcome and hospitality. A special thank you to Savage for the coin commemorating their 50th Anniversary, to Shakopee for the Sloppy Joes and to Chanhassen for their home made pizzas. Thank you to our own Sharon Braaten for the Sloppy Joes she prepared for our return to Golden valley Post 523.
The Chili & Soup Cook Off went well and the winners are:
1st Place – Heidi Smock
2nd Place – Steve Welin
3rd Place – Vicky Krueger & Jim
Thanks to Steve Petros for helping out. There were 7 entries. Thanks to all that entered their chili & soup and thanks to those that purchased a bowl and voted. Special Thanks to Joan & Jack for the vegetable tray and to John & Karen for the home made corn bread.

A gracious thank you to Brent Kummer S.A.L., for the new sink top in the men’s bathroom. He volunteered his time and woodworking shop for the project. We appreciate a job well done!!
On Friday, March 18th in observation of Lent we will serve an 8 oz Cod Fish Sandwich with lettuce, tartar sauce, French fries and coleslaw or a Shrimp Basket with 21 shrimp, cocktail or tartar sauce, French fries and coleslaw. $5.50 Jumbo Pretzel $2.00 Served 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Our Post membership is currently at 383 which is 31 short of our goal of 414. You should receive your last dues reminder shortly if you have not renewed. Please remit your dues without delay. We have met our goal for the past 2 years lets not fall short this year. Check your Legion Card if it does not say 2011 you have not paid. We really need your support to continue our support of our active duty and our veterans and their families. If you have moved remember to call and give us your new address. Thank you
