COMMANDER:

Hello again, I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. I would like to thank Operations Manager Sharon Braaten, Gaming Manager Jim Kummer, Cook Tony Schmidt and all the respective employees for making 2010 a good year for our Post. I also thank all the Post officers and all the volunteers who donate their time and work.

January 2nd (1967) Operation Bolo began over Vietnam which was designed to bring out the Mig 21's to do battle with our F-4 Phantoms.

At the January Post meeting we'll elect two members for the Holding Board. Sandi Jacobs and Tom Skalberg's 3 year terms are up. They are welcome to run again as is anyone else in good standing.

Friday January 14th is the LEGION CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK DINNER with baked potato, mushrooms, dinner roll and SALAD BAR $9.00.

Sunday January 16th is the LEGION FAMILY STEAK AND EGG BREAKFAST with American fries, toast, juice and coffee $6.00.

On January 17th (1991) Operation Desert Storm began.

On January 22nd (1944) Allies landed at Anzio, Italy.

On Monday, February 21st, 2011 at 12 pm the American Legion National Commander Jimmie Foster of Alaska will be stopping at our Post for lunch. He is stopping at 11 Posts throughout the state but only 3 in the metro area; North St Paul, Chaska and our Post. It would be great to have a huge turnout to greet him and eat with him. The lunch will be closed to the general public but any "Legion member" (not just from our Post) is welcome. The menu will be Beef pot roast or Pork roast with mashed potatoes & gravy, carrots and stuffing $15.00. RSVP's are needed. So please sign up on the Commanders Board or call it in. Remember there will be Legion members coming from other Posts so get your RSVP in.

In closing lets not forget our Troops in harms way. They need our continued support. May the "FORCE" be with them.

Thank you for your support.

Commander,
George Jansen

AUXILIARY:

Hello Everyone,

Wow, winter is in full swing and Mother Nature has once again shown who is boss!  The first snow of the season cancelled our November pancake breakfast and the second snow storm cancelled our bake sale...but we prevailed and wrapped it all into our Annual Christmas Party/Pancake Breakfast.

The raffle was a success; just under $2000.00 was raised.  The money  benefitting, Hennepin County Veterans Services, a Veteran for Christmas and the 10th District Presidents Project which is raising money for IPods and Kindles for the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital.  Thanks to everyone for all their hard work and to Peggy Tisdahl, our 10th District President for attending our meeting.

As I am writing this, there is a food drive benefitting our Veterans Homes.  It is quite a site to see the back room FULL of food, amazing what our community and schools can do!  Please keep this in mind throughout the year to keep our veterans food shelf from being empty.  A special thank you is in order for Mike Hrdlicka for all his hard work in organizing this incredible fundraiser!

The Pancake Breakfast is January 23rd.  Pancakes or French toast, along with eggs, sausage, coffee and juice, all for $6.00.

Our next meeting is January 11th at 6:30 PM, please join us, we are a team and can do great things working together.

As always, please remember our troops and their families, God Bless.

Peace
Auxiliary President
Jackie Miller

FIRST VICE COMMANDER:

Membership: Our Post membership is up to 362 as of this writing. That gives us about 86% of our goal of 414 for the year. As you know our post was selected to entertain the National Commander of the American Legion on February 21st. This is a great honor and a milestone in our 50 plus years as a Post. It is the first time we have been selected. How great it would be if we had 100% of our membership goal by the time he arrives. Please, if you have not paid your dues, send them in!  I am sure that one of the reasons we were selected was because we were 100% of goal for the past 2 years, let's not miss it this year.

Please welcome the following new members to our Post:
Joe Hulbert, Air Force, Gulf War, Crystal
Duane C. Ross, Marines, Korea, New Hope
Jeffrey Griffin, Air Force, Panama, St. Louis Park
Steven Glenn, Marines, Vietnam, Golden Valley
Welcome to all of you to the best Legion Post, Chester Bird. Please plan on attending our next Post meeting on Jan 11th at 6:30 to be introduced to your fellow Legion members.

Finally, we are getting too many returned news letters from the Post Office for the wrong address. Please remember to notify the Post when you move as each returned piece of mail cost the Post 50 cents. If you have an e-mail address please give it to us then we can e-mail the news letter to you and save the Post postage.

God Bless Our Troops and their Families and have a Wonderful New Year!
First Vice,
Dave Ziegler
