April  2011 Newsletter

COMMANDER:

Hello again, the first day of spring is only a week away as I write this and the snow is melting quickly. YIPEE.

At the March Post meeting we presented a 3rd 20 gallon Blood Donors pin to Steve Fossen (Sparky), who has now given 60 gallons of his blood. Thanks Steve. Our next door neighbor Breck is having a Blood Drive on April 13th from 10:30am to 3:30pm if you are interested in giving blood you can do so at Breck. Call the Post for more details.

We have lost 63 year member Charlie F. Wodtke (Charlie Chip) who passed away recently. He was a valued member of this Post and a much loved character. He will be missed.

Friday April 8th from 6-8pm it's the LEGION CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK DINNER with baked potato, mushrooms, dinner roll and SALAD BAR $9.00.

Sunday April 10th from 9-1pm it's the LEGION FAMILY CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK AND EGG BREAKFAST with American fries, toast, juice and coffee $6.00.

At the April Post meeting nominations for Post Officers and one Gambling Board seat will be held. Come on down and get involved with running your Post.

In closing lets not forget our troops who are in harms way. They need our continued support. May the "FORCE" be with them.

AUXILIARY:

Hello Everyone!
I am sure you are all looking forward to spring as much as I am!  We do have some fun events in the planning stages and would welcome some fresh new ideas, so please join us at our next meeting Tuesday, April 12th at 6:30 PM.
We currently have 185 paid memberships and are very close to our goal of 193.  If you know someone who is interested, please have them contact Doris Rindahl or myself for additional information.   Together we can reach our goal!
The next Auxiliary Pancake Breakfast is Sunday April 17th from 9 AM to Noon.  All you can eat pancakes or French toast, along with sausage, eggs, juice and coffee.  Cost is $6.00 for adults, children 10 and under $3.00.  Also a $1.00 off coupon towards a Bloody Mary or Screw Driver is included with each adult breakfast!   
Poppy cards will be available beginning April 23rd.  Let’s do our part to get the word out, remembering 100% of the money raised goes directly to Veterans. 
In closing, please remember to check the Auxiliary and Legion boards for up-coming events and information on our Legion family.

Nomination of Officers will be held at our next meeting on Wednesday April 6th 6:30 p.m.  Please join us and get involved.  Elections will be held at the May meeting.

Friday, April 15th, the S.A.L. will be serving an 8 oz deep fried cod served with spring potatoes, green beans and coleslaw,  $8.00 Shrimp baskets with French fries and coleslaw.  $7.00 we will also be serving chicken wings plain or with hot sauce served with blue cheese dressing and celery.

FIRST VICE COMMANDER:

Our membership remains at 383. Our goal for the year is 414. It appears that for the first time in 3 years we will not meet our goal. We have too many members that have not paid their dues. We have added several new members but they are not enough to make up for the deceased members and those who have decided not to renew for 2011. We welcome our new members:

Your dues go to support so many programs for our veterans that they need I can not imagine why you would not contribute to them. Please consider renewing and giving them your support.
