COMMANDER:
Hello again; at our May Post meeting all current Post officers except for Sgt
at Arms were re-elected. Mike Hrdlicka is our new Sgt at Arms; he replaces Jim
Vandemark who didn't wish to run for another term. Thanks Jim for a job well
done. Your new At Large Executive Board members are Jon Prentice, Craig Hartman
and Ken Griese. All Post and Executive positions are 1 year terms. Dick Wielander
and Tom Davison were re-elected for 3 year terms on the Gambling Board, and Sandi
Jacobs has agreed to remain as my Adjutant. My thanks to all of these comrades
who continue putting their time and effort toward making this a great Post.
On a somber note Taps were played for Ernie Bird. He served in the Army during
WW11, he was also a past Commander of this Post in 1959-1960 and a 66 year member
of the American Legion. He was the brother of our Post's namesake. He will be
missed.
June begins by remembering two of the most important actions of WW11, the Battle
of Midway Island on June 3 (1942) considered the turning point of the war in
the Pacific against Japan and D-Day June 6 (1944) when the allied landings at
Normandy began the final push to defeat Germany.
On Friday June 11 from 6-8pm it's the LEGION CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK DINNER with
baked potato, mushrooms, dinner roll and SALAD BAR $9.00.
On Sunday June 13 from 9-1pm it's the LEGION FAMILY CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK AND
EGG BREAKFAST with American fries, toast, juice and coffee $6.00.
Monday June 14 is Flag Day, at 6pm our Ritual Team will hold a Flag Disposal
Ceremony. Come on down and watch the show.
Looking ahead, Sunday July 11 is Whiz Bang Days in Robbinsdale. We will again
be stepping off the Parade with our Color Guard. If you want to participate contact
Tom Skalberg, Chico or myself.
Saturday August 7 is the Membership drive Picnic. Time to renew your dues for
2011 and get your Early Bird Stamp.
Saturday August 14 is the Annual CHESTERBIRD OPEN Golf tournament.
In closing lets not forget our Troops in harms way. They need our continued support.
May the "FORCE" be with them.
Thank You for your support.
George Jansen, Commander

FIRST VICE COMMANDER:
Our total membership for the year is still growing! We are
now up to 420! Thanks to every one who has recruited a member,
we really need them to become a part of our post and participate
in serving our Troops and Veterans and their Families. The
larger our membership, the more we can assist them, so lets
keep it going. We have so many programs to be proud about
such as Legion Baseball, Boys State, Boy Scouts, and donations
to all the organizations we support.
Please remember our veterans who have lost their lives when
we honor them on Memorial Day. We must revitalize the meaning
of this day in our youth and community. They gave their all
for us so please take this Memorial Day to remember and Honor
them.
God Bless our Troops and Their Families.
First Vice Commander,
Dave Ziegler

SERVICE OFFICER:
Don’t’ forget Whiz Bang Days in Robbinsdale, July11th. We
meet at the Bird around 1:30 PM and head over to the staging
area at 39th and Noel for a 3:00 PM start. As usual we will
be the lead unit in the parade. We need convertibles, marchers
for the color guard, rifle team, flag bearers, escorts and
candy distributors. Good time lots of people, great exposure
for the Post and reception after the parade at Westphal Legion.
Please call me at 612-363-754 if you would like to participate.
Kudos to Squadron Commander David Jenkins and brother Joe for
their participation in the annual disabled veterans Turkey
Hunt at Fort Ripley. They get up a 1:00 AM each of the two
mornings to cook for the participants. 39 Vets mostly in wheelchairs
enjoyed the days.
Condolences to the family of Ernie Bird, who was a Past Commander
of the Post.
Service Officer,
Tom Skalberg, P.C.
