January 2010 Newsletter

 

COMMANDER:

Hello again, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year in 2010. I would like to thank Operations Manager Sharon Braaten, former Gaming Manager Jon Prentice and new Gaming Manager Jim Kummer and all bar employee's, Gaming employee's and Cook Tony Schmidt and the kitchen employee's for all their hard work and dedication in making 2009 a good year for this Post.

At our January Post meeting we will elect two members to the Holding Board for three year terms.

In January the girl Scouts will start taking cookie orders. We again will be sending them overseas to our troops. Let’s surpass the 717 boxes we sent last year. The information will be posted on the Commanders Board, so come on down and get your orders in. If you get your cookies from a different troop and want to send them overseas we would be glad to accommodate.

Friday January 8th from 6-8pm it's the LEGION CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK DINNER with baked potato, mushrooms, dinner roll and SALAD BAR $9.00.

Sunday January 10th from 9-1pm it's the LEGION FAMILY CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK AND EGG BREAKFAST with American fries, toast, juice and coffee $6.00.

Saturday January 30th the Legion will be serving a Seafood Platter Dinner (nothing will be deep fried). We will be serving only 50 dinners with paid in advance reservations required. This is a Legion fund Raiser.
The menu is as follows:
Appetizer: Shrimp Cocktail and breadsticks
Main Course: 6oz Bake Salmon Filet, Scallops, Steamed Clams in garlic butter and Shrimp Alfredo.
Dessert: Berry Tart
Reservations accepted until the 18th of January, cost is $25.00 per person.

Saturday February 20th come on down for a night of Mardi gras madness. There will be beads, masks, music and food. This also will be a Legion Fund Raiser, more to come in February’s newsletter. Also in February we'll be hosting an Ice Fishing Contest.

In closing lets not forget our troops in harms way. They need our continued support. May the "FORCE" be with them.

Happy New Year~!
I would like to thank everyone who donated food for the Food Drive. I would also like to thank Mike Hrdlicka for delivering the food to the VA.

From our Raffle proceeds we were able to donate $500.00 for Christmas to a family whose husband/father just returned from overseas.
A big thank you to every one who contributed to the Bake Sale, it was a HUGE success! We sold many wonderful goodies.
At our Pancake Breakfast in December, we served 102 meals. We also had a visit from Santa. Santa brought his helpers Steve (Santa’s Elf!), Angie (Santa’s helper) and Jon Prentis (photographer). Thank you to all of you!!!!

There is a sign up sheet on the Auxiliary bulletin board for Taco Thursdays. January is the Auxiliaries time to volunteer, please sign up for one of the Thursdays!
Auxiliary Pancake Breakfast, January 17th. All the pancakes you can eat!

FIRST VICE COMMANDER:

Our Post membership stands at 365 out of 410. No new members to report. Please, please if you have not sent in your renewal dues do so right away. Just send the $35 to the Post and I will get your card mailed out. We have 45 members that have not yet renewed and we really need you meet our goal of 410.

Be sure to check out our new Post Web Site at "chesterbird.com" You will be able to read about Post activities, send e-mail to the Post. It really gives you vital information, so check it out.

Remember to let me know about a change of address and give us your e-mail address so that we may contact you.

Our "Cookies for Troops" campaign is just about to kick off. As you know we send Girl Scout cookies to our troops on active duty. Last year we sent over 700 boxes and most of them went to Minnesota units so let’s beat it this year and let them know we care about them.

Happy New Year!  I hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday season.  I’m looking forward to a great year!

Membership is at 90.  That’s only 1 away from an “ALL TIME HIGH!”  If you have not paid your dues please do so, you will keep your continuous years.  Great work guys!  Welcome new member Eric Batiza.

The S.A.L. will be hosting a mystery bus tour on Sunday, January 31st.    The bus leaves at 12:00 noon.  Cost is $15.00.  At the time of this letter there only a few spots open so call now 763-377-4252. Meet at the Post and start off with some donuts, muffins and coffee.  Then we will journey to 4 American Legions returning about 5:30 to have a bite to eat.  Watch for a sign up sheet at the Post.

Super Bowl Sunday, February 7th, is the 9th Annual S.A.L. Chili Cook Off….BUT WAIT….this year we are including your best soup recipe to the contest!!  HEY FOLKS its SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!  Make your best batch and bring it to the Post by 1:00 p.m.  It is free to enter and you will receive 2 free drink tickets.  You do not need to be a S.A.L. member to enter.  1st prize is $35.00.  2nd prize is $30.00 and 3rd prize is $20.00.  Buy a bowl for $3.00, try them all and vote for your favorite.  Judging will be between the small meat and the big meat raffle about 4:30 p.m.  Good Luck!

Friday, January 15th we will be serving a Roast Pork Loin Dinner, slow cooked to perfection and served with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, apple sauce and a dinner roll.  $8.00   Served 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.   Hope to see you there!
