to outgoing Holding Board Members; Tom Skalberg and Ron Tanner
for their work and input on the board these past three years.
Its Girl Scout cookie time again, come on down to the Post

In January the Auxiliary had an open seat on the Holding Board.
Bev Jennings was nominated for that position. Thank you Bev!
Mark your calendars, Auxiliary meetings are the second Tuesday
of every month at 6:30 PM. Please plan on attending, we need
your support!

FIRST VICE COMMANDER:
Welcome to a new year. The current membership is at 372 with
2 new members signing up last week we are at 90% of our goal
of 410. We still have about 40 current members that have
not paid their dues for 2010. The new membership year starts
on May 1st so I hope you can all see your way to renew your
membership. With the surge of troops going into Afghanistan
they need the support the Legion provides more than ever
and we need the funds to help them.
The Post "Cookies for Troops" drive is starting this
month. Last year we were able to send over 700 boxes of Girl
Scout Cookies to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and with
new deployments we would like to increase that this year. So,
please consider buying a few boxes to send over to them. If
you want to help we will have a sign up sheet on the Commanders
Bulletin board. If you would rather buy them and bring them
to the post its OK too. If you can not make it down to the
Post just send a check made to Legion Post #523 and make a
notation " Cookies for Troops" The cookies are $3.50
per box.
God Bless Our Troops and Their Families

SERVICE
OFFICER:
VETERANS, TROOPS CAN ALWAYS SALUTE
A change to Section 9 of the U.S. Flag Code written into the
Defense Authorization Act this year now gives veterans and
members of the U.S. Armed Forces the authority to render
a salute to the flag, whether or not they are in uniform
or wearing identifying veteran apparel such as an American
Legion cap.
All others present should remove any headwear, face the flag
and place their right hand over their heart.
Headwear should be held to the left shoulder, leaving the right
hand over the heart. These acts are to be conducted anytime
there is a hoisting or lowering of the U.S. Flag, whenever
it passes. Citizens of foreign countries should stand at attention.
Service Officer,
Tom Skalberg P.C.
