April 2010 Newsletter
COMMANDER:
Hello again, I hope your doing well. It looks like we’ll be sending about 520
boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to our Troops overseas. I'll give a more detailed
report in my May article.
At the March Post meeting I had the pleasure of presenting 50 year continuous
membership certificate to Jerold (Jerry) Huntington. Jerry was with the 187th
Airborne in Korea during that war. Also at this meeting we held nominations for
all Post officer positions, three at large executive board seats and two seats
on the gambling committee. We will continue with nominations at the April and
May meetings with the election following at the May meeting.
On Friday April 9th from 6-8pm it's the LEGION CHARCOAL GRILLED STEAK DINNER
with baked potato, mushrooms, dinner roll and SALAD BAR $9.00.
On Sunday April 11th from 9-1pm it’s the LEGION "FAMILY" STEAK & EGG
BREAKFAST with American fries, toast, juice and coffee $6.oo.
On Saturday May 22nd we'll be leading off the Golden Valley Days Parade with
our color guard. If you would like to participate, please contact me.
On Monday May 31st Memorial Day our Post along with the Golden Valley VFW are
going to try something different than the joint venture ceremony we've been doing
for years. We are going to have a Parade starting at Seeman Park which is on
Florida Ave. and Golden Valley Road just west of Douglas and Golden Valley Road.
It will be one mile long ending at Golden Valley City Hall where we will hold
our Memorial Day Ceremony with free hotdogs, chips and soda following the Ceremony.
This is John Giese's idea, he is a member of both Posts and thought this might
make more people aware of what Memorial Day is all about. It's a great idea.
So if you want to participate contact me. More details in the May newsletter.
Don't forget to check out our website at www.chesterbird.com.
If you would like to receive your newsletter by e-mail there is an e-mail link
on the first page. If you choose this option you will no longer get it by postal
delivery
In closing lets not forget our Troops in harms way. They need
our continued support. May the "FORCE" be with them.
Thank you for your support.
Commander,
George Jansen

FIRST VICE COMMANDER:
Membership has grown to 402, that’s 98% of our 410 goal. We
only have about 30 days to get the final 8 memberships in.
If any of you have not sent in your dues for 2010, we need
them now. We do not want to fall back from last year. I know
there are quite a few that have not sent them in yet but if
you intend to continue to belong to the best Post in the Best
Veteran’s organization you will have to get them into me NOW.
Remember the dues are deductible.
Don't lose your continuous years of membership status, the
Legion magazine, the Legion News Paper and the Legion benefits
you have. Send them in. Thank You.
